Bellows Falls stickers win again
They extended their winning streak to 27 games — a run that would have given the Tribe the Major League Baseball record.
Abbe Cravinho scored once and also dished out three assists as the Terriers trounced the visiting Burr and Burton varsity field hockey team, 8-1, on Monday afternoon.
"She just never stops. She is go, go, go. She has speed, skill and she's driven. I can't say enough about Abbe," stated BF coach Bethany Coursen. "She gives 100 percent in every sport that she plays. She is also a great kid and very coachable."
The BF stickers, who last lost to Otter Valley in October of 2015, are off to a 4-0 start after winning back-to-back Division 3 state championships.
They jumped out to a 4-0 halftime lead on Monday, thanks to goals from Reaghan Baldasaro, Molly Kelly, Meaghan Banik and Cravinho. And it would have been much more lopsided had BBA netminder Hannah Callen not made a handful of pretty saves.
Paxton Santorelli and Madison Streeter made early clears for the hosts, who were forced to play defense over the first three minutes. Streeter later made a nice steal in the back and Santorelli took the ball away from a foe near midfield just before the break.
Sophia Hyslop tapped one in from the weak side, Baldasaro scored from in close, and Dani Marchica put away a rebound to give the Terriers a 7-0 advantage with 17 minutes remaining in the contest. The home crowd was treated to some pretty passing during that span — Banik and Baldasaro fed each other often on the right side, Madi Joy dumped the ball to Baldasaro in the circle, and Cravinho continually crossed it in front.
"I thought we did a really good job of keeping the pressure on. We were pretty hungry out there," noted coach Coursen.
Cravinho took over for the next three minutes, unloading three times from long range and making a fine run up the gut. Streeter chipped in by bulling her way into the circle before Callen made another stop.
The Bulldogs (1-2-1) put some heat on down the stretch. Efremia Geralis and Charleigh Carlby teamed up for a give-and-go along the left side, Carlby attacked, and Hannah Hedberg eventually delivered on a penalty corner.
Marchica would cap the scoring with seven minutes left to seal BF's 27th consecutive victory dating back to 2015.
Emma Lober earned the shutout for the 4-0 Terriers, who will host Hartford on Thursday.
