BF baseball team tops Cosmos


WESTMINSTER >> Zach Streeter and Alex Groenwold took turns on the hill on Tuesday as the sixth-seeded Bellows Falls baseball team topped No. 11 Springfield, 5-2, in a Division 2 playdown game.

Brian Green, Streeter and Groenwold all went 2 for 3 and scored a run for the winners. Matt Veysey finished with two hits and an RBI to lead the visiting Cosmos.

The 9-8 Terriers will play at No. 3 Lake Region in Friday's quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m. Noah Bathalon drove in three runs on Tuesday to lead Lake Region past No. 14 Milton, 13-3.

The quarterfinal matchups, all scheduled for Friday at 4:30 p.m., look like this: No. 6 Bellows Falls at No. 3 Lake Region, No. 5 Harwood at No. 4 BFA-Fairfax, No. 8 Mount Abraham at No. 1 Lamoille, and No. 7 Fair Haven at No. 2 U-32.


LYNDONVILLE >> Brianna Doty was 3 for 4 and drove in three runs to help No. 2 Lyndon to a 25-5 victory over 15th-seeded Bellows Falls in a Division 2 playdown on Tuesday.

Zea Macris also drove in three runs and Riley Boivin was 2 for 2 with five RBIs. Gracie Ducker earned the win with a five-strikeout effort.

Murphy Hicks took the loss for the Terriers, who finish the season at 4-13. Paxton Santorelli was 3 for 3 and Emily Stoddard finished with two hits.


BRATTLEBORO >> Alex McClelland hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to send the Athletics to 10-0 with a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Cardinals. Caden Wood, who started for the Cards, didn't allow a hit in five innings. The A's Zinabu McNeice allowed only one hit in that span. Keagan Systo scored three runs and was on base four times for the A's. The Cardinals got key hits from Wood, Elias Gradinger, Aden McMahon, TJ St. John and Tristan Evans. Morgan VanIderstine threw 1.2 innings of clutch relief to get the win.

Lead-off hitter Sam Henry paced the Red Sox offense with a four-hit game, including two doubles, in an 18-6 decision over the Reds. Jack Pattison hit his second home run of the season and added two more hits. Aaron Petrie pitched effectively and had three knocks for the resurgent Sox. Will Hill, Wyatt Sargent and Harper Cutler also added hits. The Reds rallied late in this one with base hits from Jackson Emery, Turner Clews and Jett Emery. Derek Parsons showcased defensive versatility and added a base hit and a run scored.
