BF Police make arrest in Boys & Girls Club vandalism case

BELLOWS FALLS -- Though police have made an arrest in connection with vandalism at the Bellows Falls Boys & Girls Club, the executive director of the Brattleboro chapter said certain health hazards have indefinitely closed the Church Street location.

Beth Baldwin said the Bellows Falls club is affiliated with the one in Brattleboro and was severely tarnished Monday night by someone who broke into the building the club rents from Immanuel Episcopal Church and caused water damage, emptied the fire extinguishers and wrote vulgar graffiti. The Bellows Falls Police Department stated someone was taken into custody, but there is still an active investigation and anyone with information about the crime is asked to call 802-463-1234 with details.

Baldwin told the Reformer the building is uninhabitable right now.

"They made a huge mess. There's paint, there's food everywhere, there's writing on the building," she said, adding that she was told the person arrested is not associated with the Club. "If it was, it would be a huge slap in the face."

Baldwin said the Club is now without supplies and furniture and donations are greatly appreciated.
