BFSC members earn 12 medals

BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro Figure Skating Club sent seven girls to the Walla Bear competition in Fitchburg, Mass., on Saturday. As a club, the girls participated in 12 events and brought home a dozen medals.

During the Basic Skills portion of the competition, Emma Fuller of Swanzey, N.H., placed 2nd in Basic Five Elements and 1st in her Basic Five Program. Abigail Squiers of Brattleboro placed 2nd in Basic Two Elements. Casey Conkling of Brattleboro placed 2nd in Basic Three Elements. Soha Sherwani of Brattleboro placed 3rd in Basic Three Elements. It was the first ever competition for Conkling and Squiers.

During the Freestyle portion of the competition, Rose Dumaine of Jacksonville skated in three events. She placed 1st in Beginner Compulsory, 1st in Beginner Showcase and 3rd in her Beginner Program. Amelia Opsahl of Chesterfield, N.H., placed 1st in Pre-Preliminary Compulsory Moves and 2nd in her Well Balance No Test Program. Reagan Shippee of Vernon placed 1st in Artistic Showcase Preliminary and 3rd in Test Track Preliminary Program.

All of the girls are coached by Stacy Chickering of Chesterfield, N.H., and Suzanne McCaughtry of Keene, N.H.
