Boyd, Streeter end games with OT goals

WILMINGTON >> Skyler Boyd scored with 31 seconds remaining in the first overtime period to give the Twin Valley varsity boys soccer team a thrilling 2-1 victory over Leland & Gray on Wednesday night.

"It was an exciting game. It was hard-fought, there was a huge crowd and it was some intense soccer," stated winning coach Buddy Hayford.

Nathan Claussen split the posts 16 minutes in to give the Rebels an early 1-0 lead. Logan Park put away a header, off a corner feed from Jack McHale, to get the Wildcats even in the 27th minute.

The game-winner came off of a throw-in by Chad Bernard. Ethan Fox then found Logan Park, who sent a through ball ahead to Boyd. The 10-yard shot was tucked inside the near post.

Brett Swanson, Dylan Howe, TJ Felisko and Fox all played well in the back end for 5-0 Twin Valley, while Logan Boyd finished with three saves. Luc Dugrenier made 13 stops for the Rebels, who also got solid play from Pat McDonald.

BRANDON >> Madison Streeter scored 2:17 into OT, assisted by Abbe Cravinho, to give Bellows Falls a 3-2 victory over host Otter Valley.

"Great game, Otter Valley is a very good team. They play a long ball game and we play a passing game, so I think it was a good game for both teams. We always love playing Otter Valley. It is always a great game," said Terriers coach Bethany Coursen.

Reaghan Baldasaro and Cravinho also tallied for Bellows Falls, with those goals being set up by Molly Kelly. Brigid Hodsden made a pair of clutch saves early in OT to give the Purple Pack a chance.

The 5-0 Terriers will host Rutland today.

BRATTLEBORO >> On Sept. 23 at 6:15 p.m., the Brattleboro coed softball championship will be held on the lower field at Memorial Park, pitting Expert-Exchange against New Chapter.

Along with trying to bring home the trophy for Corey Newton, Expert-Exchange will be raising much needed money to help cover Newton's medical bills. Newton was burned badly in an accident this past weekend, when the barn he was working in burned to the ground.

To help cover medical expenses that Newton can't afford due to not having insurance, Expert-Exchange and the Brattleboro community will be stepping up to the plate and trying to assist with as much of the expenses as possible. Every donation will be very much appreciated.
