Brattleboro 12's take opener


BENNINGTON >> In Game 1 of the District 2 Championship, the Brattleboro Little League 12-year-old All-Star baseball team defeated host Bennington 5-2 in extra innings at Hogan Field on a misty Sunday night.

Zinabu McNeice of Brattleboro and Brody Crawzic of Bennington matched zeros, with McNeice throwing five scoreless innings and Crawzic throwing seven. The score remained 0-0 until the top of the eighth inning when Brattleboro's Alex Bingham hit a blooper into right that scored two runs. Caden Wood would come up later in the inning and hit a homer deep into the night over the right field wall.

Wood also hit a triple earlier in the game. Right fielder Magnus VonKrusenstiern shined defensively as he made key catches and also threw a runner out at third. Brattleboro's pitchers (McNeice and Huxley Holcombe) combined to allow just three hits and struck out 13.

10-year-old Stars

Bennington leadoff hitter Carter Thompson had three hits including a long triple and scored two runs to lead Bennington to a convincing 8-1 win over Brattleboro in Game 2 of the Little League 10-year-old All Star Division 2 series.

Tanner Bushee contributed two hits and also scored twice. The game was started by Connor Hannan, who threw four scoreless innings.

Will Hill had two hits and a walk to lead visiting Brattleboro. Degan Gundry pitched effectively over three innings. Brandon Weeks was walked in the sixth inning and later scored. James Fagley, Bronson Finnell and Keagan Systo all hit safely.
