Brattleboro 13’s are still alive

SAINT ALBANS -- In Game 1 of the state 13-year-old Babe Ruth tournament at the Collins Perley Complex, the Brattleboro All Stars won a thriller over Suburban, 9-8.

Brattleboro fell behind 8-0 in the first two innings, but Kyle Murray came on to pitch five innings of shutout relief. Meanwhile, the offense came to life, scoring three runs in both the third and fourth frames and two more in the sixth to pull even at 8-8.

In the seventh, a single by Murray and walks to Bret Worden and Joe Rafus loaded the bases. With two outs, Emmanuel Keppel drove home the game-winning run.

Logan Morton went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple to lead the winners offensively. Jeremy Rounds crossed the plate three times, while Jack Price and Keppel each made some nice defensive plays.

In Game 2, Franklin County trumped Brattleboro, 14-4. Joe Rafus and Hunter Beebe pitched well in relief for Brattleboro. Jack Price singled and doubled, and Evan Finnell chipped in with a bunt for a hit.

Brattleboro will take on Lakes Region on Friday night, with a spot in the championship game versus Franklin County at stake.
