BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Babe Ruth All-Star baseball team will take on the District 1 champion on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Tenney Field.

In the other opening-round contest of the double-elimination state tournament, Barre will face the District 3 representative on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Brattleboro Union High School. Three more games will be played on Saturday and the title tilt is scheduled for Sunday, all at Tenney Field.

Pepsi's Tyler Millerick, who has been dealing with a knee infection, struck out 14 and also went 3 for 4 from the plate during a 10-2 victory over DMI early in the season. Shortstop Adam Newton (Pepsi) made a couple of strong throws home for outs against Hinsdale, while southpaw Joe Rafus (DMI) recently threw a two-hit gem.

Those are four of the 15 players on manager Patrick Keppel's roster.

Brattleboro is the defending 15-year-old champion, having defeated Suburban 9-2 in last year's finale. Leif Bigelow, Ben Betz and Ian Fulton-Black did the pitching for that 2015 powerhouse.
