Brattleboro boys lacrosse team looks to rebound after 13-8 loss

MANCHESTER -- The Brattleboro boys lacrosse team was upended by the Burr & Burton Bulldogs, 13-8, under the lights at Applejack Field on Wednesday night.

The Colonels battled back from an early 2-1 deficit to take the lead 3-2 after one quarter of play. The teams traded leads in the second quarter, with the Bulldogs scoring the first two goals of the quarter to take a 4-3 lead, the Colonels coming back to go up 6-5 and the Bulldogs finishing the quarter strong to take a 7-6 lead into halftime.

Brattleboro came out hot to start the second half, scoring twice quickly to regain the lead, but they would never lead or score again. Down 8-7, Burr & Burton tied the game on an extra-man possession and scored three more times to take an 11-8 lead into the final quarter.

"We didn't see the ball much in the second half. We worked hard but we struggled picking up ground balls and clearing the ball -- we played too much defense," said BUHS coach Chris Sawyer. "Burr & Burton played a great game and earned the win. We'll keep our heads up and get back to practice. We still have opportunities ahead of us, but we need to improve our fundamentals if we're going to realize them."

For the Colonels, Brennen Zolnoski (No. 9 in photo), Sam Siegel and Tanner Freeman scored twice while Conner Elliott-Knaggs and Jack Gagnon added single goals.

Brattleboro (10-3) will play at Rutland this morning.
