Brattleboro CC's Walker in Jones Memorial

WATERBURY — The Country Club of Vermont in Waterbury is the site of this year's state amateur championship for senior women golfers. A field of 90 players is scheduled to tee it up for the two-day tournament beginning at 8 a.m. on July 19. Tee times on July 20 also will begin at 8 a.m.

Known as the Ruth Raymond Jones Memorial Seniors' Championship, the tournament started in 1966, making this the 52nd edition of this popular annual event.

2016 winner Reggie Parker of Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester will be defending her title. Parker has won the Senior Women's Amateur eight times. 2015 champion Jeanne Morrissey of Williston Golf Club also

will be competing. Morrissey was runner-up last year.

This year's field includes many fine golfers and potential contenders including Terry Boyce of Killington GC, Mary Brush of Burlington CC, Liz Walker of Brattleboro CC, Barb Shiffler of Williston GC, Patti Haas of

Killington GC, Patricia Decaire of the Quechee Club, Mo Quinn of Lake St. Catherine CC, and Shelly Yusko of the Quechee Club.

The event is open to women golfers age 55 and older who are Vermont residents or who belong to a Vermont real estate golf club.

Awards will be presented for both low gross and low net scores, plus winners in three divisions: Senior (55-64), Super Senior (65-69), and Legend (70 and up).
