Brattleboro Country Club members approve forward motion on sale

BRATTLEBORO -- The members of the Brattleboro Country Club have approved a proposal to sell the club to a private buyer.

Board President Jason Kelley said a quorum of the club's membership was present at a closed meeting Thursday night and that group approved the sale, which still has to be worked out between the buyer and a number of area banks.

Kelley would not say how many people were present at Thursday night's meeting or how many people approved the sale. He also declined to provide the name of the potential new owner.

The country club has been facing years of declining membership as well as outstanding debt from the land purchase and expansion of the course from a 9-hole to an 18-hole course. The 18-hole course opened in 2000.

Kelley also declined to talk about the club's finances, only saying that the sale of the country club and golf course was inevitable.
