Brattleboro Decathlon scheduled for July 5-6


BRATTLEBORO -- The fourth annual Brattleboro Decathlon is scheduled for July 5 and July 6 at Brattleboro Union High School, starting at 3:30 p.m. each day.

The events include Keg Toss, Driver Throw, Frisbee Field Goals, Vortex Football Throw, 100 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 1 Mile Run, 110 meter hurdles, Long Jump, and High Jump. The creators are Dan Barile and Brian Lashway -- 2006 BUHS graduates and current BUHS track and field coaches.

Anyone 18 and older is welcome to compete for the title of Brattleboro’s greatest athlete. You can search "Brattleboro Decathlon" on Facebook, send an email to brattleboro or show up on race day to compete.

"It is a unique event that everyone seems to enjoy. It has grown every year and has attracted people from all different backgrounds and levels of athletic ability," said Barile.

Will Franklin is the two-time defending champion, and Barile won the initial Brattleboro Decathlon in 2011. Last year’s team champion was Oscar Smith, Naomi Pollica and Barile.
