BRATTLEBORO >> The Brattleboro Fire Department responded to what was reported as a cellar fire on Monday night.

According to Fire Chief Michael Buccosi, the department received the report at 5:14 p.m. and was on scene at 5:23. At 5:26 the fire was upgraded to a second alarm.

"This was a house fire on Hinesburg Road," said Buccosi. Tankers from Dummerston and Guilford assisted because the home was outside of the hydrant district in Brattleboro. In addition, the Brattleboro Fire Department was assisted by Rescue Inc. and departments from Putney and Keene, Chesterfield and Hinsdale, N.H. The fire was quickly extinguished, he said.

"The fire is under investigation," said Buccosi, who noted the second floor of the home was damaged by heat and smoke.
