Brattleboro foot pursuit ends in dumpster


BRATTLEBORO — After a drawn-out foot pursuit throughout downtown, a Brattleboro man was arrested on felony warrants for aggravated assault and assault robbery.

Robert Bessette Jr., 24, had a warrant issued out of Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division, for his involvement in an assault and robbery with injury that occurred on March 2 at a hotel in Brattleboro. Friday evening, Brattleboro police officers responded to an apartment on Main Street in an attempt to apprehend him.

According to a "tweet" sent out on Twitter from BPD Captain Mark Carignan's account, Bessette traveled through the downtown area, over a roof and was caught hiding in a dumpster. Bessette was treated at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for injuries, no officers were hurt.

Vermont State Police and Hinsdale NH Police assisted during this incident.
