Brattleboro girls win cross-country race

WESTMINSTER >> The Brattleboro Union High School cross-country teams competed at Bellows Falls on Tuesday. Eleven schools were represented in the meet, with nine complete teams on the boys' side and seven teams competing in the girls' race.

The Brattleboro girls displayed some great depth and won their team event. They were led by Sarah Gallagher in fourth place, Elery Loggia in 10th, Liz Morse in 11th, Annie Takacs in 12th, and Emilia Dick-Fioro del Fabro in 13th.

"Most of the girls were significantly faster on the three-mile course than they were on the Bellows Falls course one year ago," said BUHS coach John Dimick.

In the boys race, Stratton Mountain won, the Colonels took the silver and the host Terriers ended up third. Brattleboro's Isaac Freitas-Eagan finished first in 17:00. Also scoring for BUHS were Colin Costa-Walsh (7th), Spencer Loggia (8th), Trevor Kipp (17th) and Logan Makay (52nd).

"Stephen Borst, a freshman at Saint Michael High School who trains and races alongside the Colonel runners, ran well in his first race by placing 39th with a time of 22:26. Stephen is the first athlete to compete in the blue and white of the Saints since 1968 when the high school closed its doors on Walnut Street," noted coach Dimick.

Lia Clark placed 13th overall for the Bellows Falls girls. Cody Tallent (10th), Nic Potter (12th), Ian Wallace (15th) and Tim Salter-Roy (18th) paced the BF boys.
