Brattleboro man arrested for home invasion

KEENE, N.H. -- Lore "Luda" Bedward, age 29, of Brattleboro, was arrested on Friday, June 28 in Keene, N.H. He was wanted for aggravated assault with a firearm, stemming from a home invasion that occurred on May 28 in Hartford, Vt.

The U.S. Marshals Service Vermont Violent Offender Task Force arrested Bedward with the help of agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Vermont State Police and the Cheshire County Sheriff's Department.

Bedward stands accused of gaining entrance to a Hartford home by pointing a firearm at a victim.

He is being held at the Cheshire County Jail as a Fugitive From Justice while he awaits extradition to Vermont.

Bedward's arrest was a result of a culmination of investigative efforts by the U.S. Marshals, ATF, the Hartford Police Department, the Vermont State Police and the Cheshire County Sheriff's Department.


-- On June 25, Alicia B. Dana, 43, of Putney, was stopped on Route 5 for a minor motor vehicle violation and after being observed by Vermont State Police buying suspected alcohol at a convenience store. She is known to have a suspended license and court conditions from a recent DUI charge stipulate that she does not possess, purchase or consume alcoholic beverages. Dana was stopped and found to possess alcohol as well as have a civilly suspended license. She was cited into the Windham Superior Criminal Court for violation of conditions of release and given a civil traffic ticket for operation after suspension.


-- On June 26, Chris R. Romanik, 35, of Lowell, Mass., was stopped after Vermont State Police received complaints about erratic driving of a vehicle on I-91 north. He was subsequently screened and arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. Romanik also was found to have prescription depressant pills that were not prescribed for him.

He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, refusal of test and possession of a controlled substance. He was ordered to appear in Windham Superior Criminal Court on July 16.


-- On June 26, Vermont State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Landgrove Road. Francisca Russo, 41, of Peru, was traveling north when her vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The vehicle, a green 2000 Honda CRV, sustained heavy front end damage. Russo was transported to Springfield Hospital by a family member for treatment of unknown injuries.

The initial investigation indicates that Russo lost control while avoiding two deer in the road. There was no indication that alcohol or excessive speed were factors. Anyone who may have witness the crash is asked to contact Vermont State Police at 802-875-2112 for the Rockingham Barracks.

Saxtons River

-- On June 25, Vermont State Police conducted a motor vehicle stop after the operator swerved over the center line on Route 121. The operator was Patrick Cove, 27, of Medway, Mass. Cove admitted to having several drinks throughout the day and was arrested for driving under the influence. He was processed at the Rockingham State Police barracks and released with a citation to appear in court at a later date.
