BRATTLEBORO — Police say a man was found dead Saturday afternoon.

At 3:45 p.m. that day, Brattleboro Police Department responded to a Western Avenue residence to conduct a welfare check.

"Upon their arrival it was determined the male was deceased," police said. "Detective (Erik) Johnson from Brattleboro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division was notified and responded to the scene."

Although the death does not appear to be suspicious in nature, police said the investigation is still ongoing. Release of the man's identity is pending until his family is notified. The body was taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington for an autopsy.
