Brattleboro Outdoor Club hosts Winter Carnival events


BRATTLEBORO >> The Brattleboro Outing Club is hosting several community ski and snowshoe events during Winter Carnival Week.

On Feb. 14, Valentine's Day, from 1 to 4 p.m., there will be cross-county skiing and snowshoeing on 33 kilometers of groomed trails. Home-made cookies, snacks and hot drinks will be available in the warming hut and there will be Valentine card-making. Free for BOC cross-country members. Guest trails passes are $15 adult, $10 junior (ages 6 to 21), free for children 5 and younger). Ski and snowshoe equipment rentals are $10 a person. Cookies and card-making supplies free or by donation.

On Feb. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., BOC hosts its annual Friends Ski Free and Two for Price of One day. The warming hut with ski and snowshoe rentals, snacks, and hot beverages will be open all day throughout the winter carnival week. Free to friends of members (one friend per member). Two for the price of one guest passes for non-members ($15 adults, $10 youth ages 6-21, free children 5 and younger).

Also on Feb. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m., BOC hosts a Family Scavenger Hunt on Skis. Check in at the ski hut to receive a map of the trails and scavenger hunt destinations. Cookies, cocoa, and prizes for skiers and snowshoers await those who can find them all. Adult accompaniment of young and/or novice skiers required. Free trails pass. Ski and snowshoe rentals available: $2 to $20, sliding scale.

On Feb. 20, BOC will host a Full Moon Ski and Dinner at the Fairway Tavern, starting at 6:30 p.m. with a moonlight ski followed by dinner at 8 p.m. Free for BOC cross-country members. Guest trails passes $15 adult, $10 junior (ages 6 to 21), free for children (5 and younger). Ski and snowshoe equipment rentals for $10 a person. Dinner $14 to $24 from a menu including chicken, trout, pork tenderloin, and beef stew. Out of consideration for the restaurant, RSVP for the Tavern dinner portion of the event

All events take place at the Brattleboro Outing Club Cross Country Ski Hut at the Brattleboro Country Club, Senator Gannett Drive, 348 Upper Dummerston Rd., and are family friendly. The BOC ski hut is not wheelchair accessible or fragrance free. Late-season BOC cross-country membership signups start at the beginning of Winter Carnival week and include one free day pass for a friend. If snow conditions do not permit skiing, events will continue as scheduled in snowshoes or hiking boots.
