Brattleboro pair accused of stealing merchandise

BRATTLEBORO — Police say they found "a substantial amount of unopened merchandise" in and around an unoccupied vehicle.

Brattleboro Police Department officers launched an investigation after noticing the blue Volvo while patrolling near Canal Street on Jan. 5. They believed the products were stolen from area businesses.

"The vehicle was seized and a search warrant was applied for," police said in a press release. "When the warrant was executed, a significant amount of allegedly stolen goods were seized."

Evidence led police to apply for another search warrant at 149 Canal Street, which resulted in the seizure of "another significant quantity" of allegedly stolen merchandise.

Two Brattleboro residents, Lisa Akey, 32, and Timonthy Wainwright, 40, were arrested. They are expected to appear in Windham Superior Court Criminal Division to answer to the felony charge of possessing stolen property.

Brattleboro Fire Department and Hinsdale, N.H., Police Department assisted in the investigation.
