Brattleboro police respond to Canal Street stabbing

BRATTLEBORO -- A man is in custody and is being arraigned on Monday afternoon after he was arrested and cited with aggravated assault.

Members of the Brattleboro Police Department responded to an apartment on Canal Street at 10:30 on the night of July 27 to the report of a person having been stabbed.

According to police, a man received multiple lacerations from "an edged weapon." He was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for treatment and subsequently released.

Following an investigation, a person of interest was identified and police applied for and were granted search warrants to find evidence of the crime.

As a result, Edward Hernandez, 41, of Brattleboro, was arrested and held on $20,000 bail pending this afternoon's arraignment.
