Brattleboro police respond to two robberies in less than 12 hours


BRATTLEBORO >> The Brattleboro Police Department is investigating a second robbery in less than 12 hours in town.

According to a press release from the department, at 8:39 a.m. on Jan. 21, the Brattleboro Police Department officers responded to the Avenue Grocery store on Western Avenue for a reported robbery.

Detectives learned a white male, approximately 6'0" with a medium build and wearing a tan Carhart-style jacket and a half-face mask entered the store. The man then walked around the store before walking up to the clerk and saying he had a gun and to give him the money from the register. The robber was given the money and he fled traveling east towards Union Hill. No weapon was shown and there were no reported injuries.

Evidence collected at the scene is currently being processed.

At 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 20, a heavy-set woman wearing a dark mask robbed the Exit 3 Mobil gas station on Putney Road.

According to a press release from the Brattleboro Police Department, the suspect is described as white female, 20 to 30 years of age, with blonde hair and blue eyes wearing a brown coat. She was also wearing a black face mask covering most of her face and a hood over her head. The robber was approximately 5 feet tall and was wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans.

The robber told the clerk she had a gun and demanded money. The robber fled the store with an undetermined amount of money traveling north on Putney Road. There were no reported injuries. The Vermont State Police was contacted and provided K-9 assistance in tracking the robber. The robber was tracked north of the gas station and is believed to have got into a waiting car.

The Brattleboro Police Department was also assisted by the Windham County Sheriff's Department. This investigation is on-going and is being handled by the Brattleboro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division.

At this point in the investigation it has yet to be determined if the robberies are connected.
