Brattleboro School of Dance presents ‘Nutcracker’ excerpts on Friday
BRATTLEBORO -- Brattleboro School of Dance will present its annual "Excerpts from the Nutcracker," benefit performances on Friday at 7 and 7:45 p.m., at the studio on the third floor of 22 High St.
Current students enrolled at the Brattleboro School of Dance will be featured in some of the more well-known scenes and pieces of this holiday-themed ballet, including "Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy" and "the Chinese Dance." Additional performances will incorporate other interpretations of Tchaikovsky’s work within other dance genres, including a jazz dance to Duke Ellington’s "Sugar Rum Cherry" and a belly dance piece to "Snowflakes."
Admission is by donation with all proceeds benefitting the Brattleboro School of Dance Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition assistance for underserved families in the community.
In addition, a silent auction will be held that evening to support a Windham Regional Career Center/Brattleboro School School of Dance field trip to the National High School Dance Festival in Norfolk, Va., in March. Items up for bid include a hand-crafted necklace from Delectable Mountain, a woven handbag from MaliSun and a signed copy of Archer Mayor’s latest mystery novel, "Paradise City," courtesy of the Mystery on Main bookstore.
