Brattleboro School of Dance’s ‘Evolution’ continues at NEYT
BRATTLEBORO -- The Brattleboro School of Dance continues performances of "Evolution," its annual spring recital Friday through Sunday at the New England Youth Theatre, 100 Flat St.
Current dance students and alumni will perform in 14 pieces choreographed by faculty and guests of the school, demonstrating a breadth of styles that include ballet, modern, jazz, tap, hip-hop and belly dancing.
The recital’s 2013 theme, "Evolution," reflects the progression of several pieces in the program over the course of different shows, says BSD Director Jennifer Moyse, as well as the generational transition within the school’s community since it was founded by Kathleen Keller in 1976. Keller remains a faculty member though she sold the school to Moyse last October.
The recital is dedicated to the memory of Johnson’s mother, Sally Whipple.
Show times are 7:30 p.m., on Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m., on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at Everyone’s Books, at 25 Elliot St. Admission is $13 general and $11 for students and seniors. Proceeds from the concert go to the Brattleboro School of Dance Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition assistance to families in the community.
