Brattleboro Senior Center workshops and events
BRATTLEBORO >> The Brattleboro Senior Center and The Brattleboro Senior Meals Program will host the March Birthday Luncheon on March 10 at 11:30 a.m. at the Gibson Aiken Center, 207 Main Street.
The menu includes appetizers, punch, baked ham with plum sauce, sweet potato, mixed greens, with cake and ice cream. All are invited to attend. Those with birthdays in the month of March are invited to celebrate the occasion by sitting at the birthday table and waiving their donation for the day. They may invite one guest to sit with them; however that guest is encouraged to make the regular donation. The suggested donation for seniors 60 years of age and over is $4. Entertainment will be provided. Make reservations by calling 802-257-1236. Please state whether you are celebrating a birthday and how many spots you wish to reserve at the Birthday table.
The Brattleboro Senior Center will be offering a cell phone and tablet workshop on Friday, March 11, at 10 a.m. This class will be feature different types of cell phones and tablets, how to use them, and one-on-one assistance with your own device. There is no fee for this class. To sign up or for more information call 802-257-7570.
The Brattleboro Senior Center and Brattleboro Senior Meals Program will host a St. Patrick's Day Celebration on Thursday, March 17, at the Gibson Aiken Center at noon. Come dressed in green attire for a delicious meal of corned beef and cabbage, glazed carrots, red potatoes, lime Jello with fruit. Richard Eriksen will provide entertainment. The suggested donation for seniors 60 years of age and over is $3.50 and anyone 60 years of age may join for $6
The Brattleboro Senior Center and Vermont Legal Aid are hosting a free Legal Aid Clinic for area seniors on Monday, March 21, at the Gibson Aiken Center. An attorney from the Senior Citizens Law Project of Vermont Legal Aid will offer a free 20-minute consult beginning at 9 a.m. Examples of the types of problems that the attorney will be able to give you advice on includes wills, powers of attorney, landlord-tenant issues, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, SSI, other public benefits, debt collection, small claims, and other civil legal matters. However, criminal matters are not discussed and the concern must be one that relates to yourself and not a friend or family member. Call the Senior Center at 802-257-7570 to schedule an appointment.
On Thursday, March 24, at 10:30 a.m., Journey to Nepal with Donna Dearborn who trekked in the Himalayas for a month in April. She walked through tiny, remote villages with newborn goats and curious children, past lush, terraced fields of the Sherpa hill country as she acclimatized to the high elevation. Mount Everest loomed above as she hiked amongst some of the snow-capped giants of the Himalayas, grateful to realize her long-time dream of experiencing the culture of this faraway land.
