Brattleboro wins SVSL and D-2 titles


BRATTLEBORO >> The Brattleboro Swim Team won its fifth consecutive Southern Vermont Swim League Championship on July 31 and then took first in the Vermont Swim Association Championship Meet in Division 2 on Aug. 6-7.

"Over the last five seasons, we have been able to do all of this and win Southern Vermonts five years in a row. We have also been able to win Division 2 States three years in a row," said Brattleboro Swim Team Head Coach Chris Brewer. "This is extremely hard work and it shows the extreme determination and motivation within all of our swimmers. It is a testament to their love of the sport and all of their competitiveness. As a coach, it is incredible to see their discipline and drive to always want to do better. As coaches, we are lucky to be able to work with individuals like this."

Brattleboro's multiple event winners in the SVSL meet were: Kali Taylor (100 IM, 25 Free, 25 Fly, 50 Free); Will "the Thrill" Hill (100 IM, 25 Free, 25 Fly, 50 Free); Isabelle Magbie (200 IM, 100 Back, 100 Fly); Yaya Cooper (50 Free, 50 Back); and Drew Brooks (100 Back, 200 Free). Willem Thurber (25 Back), Molly Schoales (50 Fly), Calvin Gould (50 Breast) and Matt Dulmaine (50 Breast) all captured one gold medal.

Also finishing first were Brattleboro's relay teams of Kaya Gibson, Kennedy Taylor, Parker Thibault and Addy Redden (Medley and Freestyle); Zachary DiZoglio, Willem Thurber, Will Hill and Luke Rizio (Medley and Freestyle); and Ernie Antonucci, Brandan Dulmaine, Matt Brooks and Henry Thurber (Medley and Freestyle).

At the Division 2 Meet, Brattleboro and Vergennes battled all day long for the crown. BST would prevail and wound up fourth overall in the 20-team state meet.

Multiple winners for Brattleboro were: Kennedy Taylor (25 Free, 25 Breast) and Isabelle Magbie (100 Back, 50 Fly). Also claiming gold were: Calvin Gould (50 Breast) and the Freestyle relay team of Parker Thibault, Kaya Gibson, Addy Redden and Kennedy Taylor. Will Hill contributed with silvers in the 25 Free, 50 Free, 100 IM and 25 Fly.
