STOWE — The Bellows Falls girls recently placed fifth in the Vermont Middle School State Cross Country Championships at the Trappe Family Lodge.

Abby Broadley won the race and set a new state course record to lead the way. Ashley Bartlett, Susannah Pennell and Katie Edwards also had strong finishes for the Bellows Falls girls, while Jared Atkins ran his best race of the year to represent the BF boys.

Broadley set four course records this year, including at the state championship meet, and is one of the top middle school runners in New England. In the spring, she competed at the USATF Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships, and finished 24th at the US Championships. She will travel to Smithfield, R.I. for the Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships as she eyes the US Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. on Dec. 9.
