BUHS boys, girls have success at home


BRATTLEBORO >> The Brattleboro Union High School varsity boys and girls Nordic ski teams placed first and second respectively in the Marble Valley League Freestyle Championship on Thursday at the Brattleboro Outing Club.

The BUHS boys scored 24 points to strike gold and were followed by Woodstock (29), BBA (33) and MAU (70). Isaac Freitas-Eagan placed second in 16:24 — just 20 seconds behind winner Scott Mooney of BBA — to lead the Colonels. Spencer Loggia (6th), Declan King (7th), Jonah Koch (9th) and Daniel Burdo (12th) rounded out Brattleboro's top five.

Woodstock dominated the girls team scoring with just 14 points, with Brattleboro (39) in second, and a tie for third between BBA (45) and MAU (45). Leading the way for the purple and white were: Bella Thurber in 6th, Sarah Gallagher in 10th, Liz Morse in 13th, Elery Loggia in 14th, and Angelika Toomey in 23rd.

Woodstock's Abby and Lauren Kaija finished first and second respectively, with Rutland's Dani Laird in the bronze position.

The MVL Classic Championship will be held on Thursday.
