BUHS girls lax team is eliminated

MANCHESTER >> The sixth-seeded Burr and Burton varsity girls lacrosse team advanced to the Division 1 quarterfinals with a 10-9 victory over Brattleboro on Wednesday.

Cat Greenberg went off for four goals to pace the Bulldogs. Jessica Forstmann followed with three goals and two assists for 10-6 BBA, which will play at No. 3 CVU in an Elite 8 game on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Colonels ended up with a 6-11 record under first-year coach Sarah Clark. The seniors on the BUHS team are: Molly Atamaniuk, Ema Baldauf, Morgan Derosia, Kira McCloskey, Meghan Sargent, Breanna Sheehan, Susanna Strothman, Emma Rueter and Brianna Ogden.

LITTLE LEAGUE

BRATTLEBORO >> The Giants staged a late rally to beat the Pirates, 5-4, on Wednesday, at the South Main Street field. Sam Hall and Magnus VonKrusenstiern led the charge with two hits each for the G-men. The Pirates turned to Alex Carpenter for the start and he turned in 4.1 innings while also adding a three-run opposite field home run. Shortstop Waylund Walsh made several strong throws to get key outs for the Pirates. Patrick Gagliardi, Devin Speno and Troy Forkin also scored runs for the Bucs.

LEGION BASEBALL

BRATTLEBORO >> The Brattleboro Post 5 Legion baseball team will hold tryouts on Sunday at 4 p.m. on Brattleboro Union High School's Tenney Field.
