BUHS girls lax team triumphs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Hannah Lynde scored five goals as the Brattleboro girls lacrosse team trumped Cathedral, 18-8, on Monday.

"The first half, I could barely recognize our team. The desire to play lacrosse and go hard just wasn't there. It was disappointing to watch. Although we were never behind at any point in the game, it felt like we were losing," said first-year BUHS coach Shannon Garrett.

But after the break, the visitors turned things around.

The Colonels got great defensive play from Haley George and six total stops from goalie Marissa "Sharky" Semenovich. And Kate Donovan did a nice job of getting the ball ahead to the Brattleboro attackers.

"The second half was sparked by the late arrival of Megan "Dirt" Siggins, who was tardy due to taking a test. The whole team lit up and our chemistry re-entered. She was unbeatable on draw control and had the first goal and first assist of the second half," noted Garrett.

"Dirt" wound up with a hat trick and one assist. Hunter Siggins chipped in with two goals and an assist.

"The team had to overcome dangerously physical play and a few injuries as a result. They powered through, and what makes me really proud is if an opponent was to fall down every kid on my team extended a hand to help them back up," said the BUHS coach.
