BUHS softball team is upset
BRATTLEBORO -- The sixth-seeded Brattleboro softball team was upset by No. 11 Colchester, 16-5, on Tuesday at Sawyer Field.
The Colonels took a 2-0 lead in the first frame, but the visitors exploded for seven runs in the second inning, added three more in the fifth and a six-spot in the sixth.
Maddy Derosia had an RBI single and Hannah Wilson belted a run-scoring triple to lead the Brattleboro attack. Wilson, Jess Ogden and Derosia took turns pitching for the defending state champions, who finished their season with a 10-7 record.

SAXTONS RIVER -- On a perfect Sunday afternoon before a nice gathering of fans, the Saxtons River Pirates lost a doubleheader to the Burlington Brewers at picturesque Vermont Academy’s Lucy Stadium by the scores of 4-0 and 5-2.
In Game 1, the Pirates could only collect two hits, both by Jeremy Kilburn, off Brewers pitcher Mark Echo.
Adam Kuhn pitched a complete game for the Pirates and was very effective.
In Game 2, the Pirates were cruising along with a 2-0 lead entering the bottom of the sixth when defensive lapses opened the flood gates and Burlington scored five runs.
Alex Drost went the distance for Saxtons River, giving up only one earned run. Jamie Spence had two hits and an RBI, Brian Bashaw an RBI, and Dominic Senerchia, Kilburn, Derrick Smidutz, and Jeremy Gilcris a hit each for Saxtons River.
