Winston Prouty Center welcomes Shawna Parker to its board

BRATTLEBOROThe Winston Prouty Center recently welcomed Shawna Parker to its Board of Trustees.

Parker is a longtime Brattleboro area resident. She is currently the Director of Marketing at World Learning in Brattleboro and Washington D.C., where she has been for the past five years. Shawna brings more than 15 years of experience in marketing and public relations, including local outreach for a variety of causes, events and organizations.

Grammar School appoints new
academic dean

PUTNEY -- The Grammar School recently announced that Apple Gifford will join the school in July in the newly created role of Assistant Head of School and Academic Dean.

"The Grammar School is tremendously excited that Apple Gifford will be joining us," said Head of School Dan Marchetti. "Apple is an experienced and thoughtful educator, and we look forward to the value her leadership will bring to our robust academic program."

Gifford comes to The Grammar School from Oak Meadow School in Brattleboro where she most recently served as Curriculum Director. Gifford has also worked as an Outward Bound instructor and as a teacher at Shady Hill School in Cambridge, Mass. Apple’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Religious Studies from Yale University, as well as a Masters of Education and an Advanced Professional Certificate in Counseling Psychology for Educators, both from Lesley University.

"My family and I have been part of the TGS community for two years and we have felt right at home from the start. For me, The Grammar School exemplifies an ideal learning community and I am thrilled to be joining Dan and the rest of the faculty and staff in the work of guiding the continuing evolution of the school’s academic program."

Brooks Memorial board seeks book lover

BRATTLEBORO -- The Board of Library Trustees of Brooks Memorial Library seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated library lover to fill an open position on the board. The successful candidate will be appointed by the Selectboard to fill the position until March 2015, and then may run as a candidate at the March 2015 Representative Town Meeting for a two-year unexpired term.

Candidates for this position should have an interest in maintaining a strong and visionary library in town. Trustees must be residents of Brattleboro.

The board, which numbers nine trustees, meets at the library from 4:45 to 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month, September through June. Members are asked to serve on two or more committees that convene as needed.
