Girls on the Run hires new event director

BRATTLEBORO -- Girls on the Run Vermont recently announced that Leslie Myette has joined the organization as the new Event Director/Office Manager.

Myette brings to her new post over 15 years of experience in Event Management and volunteer supervision, more than 10 years in office, staff and organizational management, and extensive pro bono work in the non-profit sector. A longtime Girls on the Run Vermont supporter, whose daughter participated in the program, Myette is thrilled to be joining GOTRVT, which is based in Brattleboro.

Girls on the Run is an international organization that empowers girls to develop physical, emotional and social well-being, offering strategies for dealing with life-challenges in healthy, positive ways. An interactive, experience-based afterschool educational program, Girls on the Run serves girls from 3rd to 8th grade, helping foster a sense of self-esteem, character, collaboration and community involvement through a 12-week, 24-lesson curriculum. Focusing on everything from body image and bullying to peer pressure, the media and compassion for others, the program takes place each spring, is augmented by a local community service project and culminates in wonderfully celebratory 5K run/walks held in southern, central and northern Vermont in May and June.

"Girls on the Run Vermont is in the midst of a major growth period, and we’re so glad that Leslie is a part of it," said Nancy Heydinger, Director of GOTRVT. "Last year our program expanded by 30 percent, serving more than 2,800 girls at over 140 locations across the state. Leslie’s energy, expertise and enthusiasm comes at the perfect time, when our three 5K Run/Walk events, held in May and June, are slated to be the biggest yet. This is our 15th Anniversary at Girls on the Run Vermont, and it’s fantastic to be expanding our staff now, as it will help us increase our reach and ability to ensure that girls in Vermont will have a healthy, powerful and positive future."
