Buyer found for 143-year-old Quechee church needing repairs

QUECHEE, VT. >> Officials say an agreement has been reached on the sale of a 143-year-old church needing roughly $100,000 in repairs in Quechee.

The Valley News reports Christ Redeemer Church agreed to purchase the former home of the soon-to-be-defunct Queechee Community Church, which had operated in the house of worship since 1873.

Christ Redeemer, a Baptist congregation founded 16 years ago, was holding regular Sunday services in Hanover High School.

Quechee Community Church chairman Lannie Collins says he's "delighted" that another church will be taking over the Main Street building.

The Rev. Don Willeman says Christ Redeemer has a large task ahead given the church's current state of disrepair and the need to attract a healthy congregation in the same place another disbanded.

Neither party would disclose terms of the sale.
