Canadian Circus Troupe to perform in Brattleboro

BRATTLEBORO - The New England Center for Circus Arts is proud to present the innovative, contemporary circus troupe FAQ with their show "We Don’t Need Another Hero" on Aug. 9 at 8 p.m. at the Austine School Gym.

"Frequently Asked Questions" is a company made up of 10 circus friends, classmates and coworkers, recent graduates from the acclaimed National Circus School of Canada, who share the dream of creating a new American circus company. They are all first generation circus artists and each of them has their own unique story of how they came to the circus.

Two of the company’s founders and performers originally trained at NECCA in Brattleboro before embarking on their professional careers. Lindsay Culbert-Olds and Kia Eastman may also be remembered from their time as aerialists on Vermont’s youth Circus Smirkus and many community performances in the area with NECCA. The two have created a dramatic duo trapeze act and demonstrate prowess as acrobats flying through the air with their entire company.

This show is the first touring production of FAQ and is a collaboration with modern dancer and director Michael Watts. In a world filled with super heroes, alter egos, and status updates, a group of artists collide into each other’s worlds and are forced to question their constructed identities. "Who am I once the masks and capes are taken off?"

Through a mix of circus, dance and theatre, "We Don’t Need Another Hero" is a courageous journey of shedding away our alter egos to unveil fragility and vulnerability as human beings. What if society allowed each and every one of us to defend humanity without a need for masks and capes? At our deepest core we discover what truly connects us to others, those important relationships, and that we are not alone or helpless in this challenging and often scary world. In so doing, we are united to our true power and the question; do we really need another "hero"?

Tickets for the Aug. 9 show are available at and are $15 adults / $8 under 12. There is one show only at 8 p.m. at the Austine School Gym located at 209 Austine Drive in Brattleboro,. For more information about tickets call 802-254-9780 and for information on the show visit
