Castleton's Wood has 25 K's

BRATTLEBORO >> Junior pitcher Kayla Wood has fanned a team-high 25 batters for the Castleton University softball team, which is off to a 6-8 start.

The Brattleboro Union High School graduate has started two games, has 15.2 innings of work, and has a 1-1 record in the circle this season. She has walked seven, given up six hits, allowed four runs, and has an impressive 0.45 Earned Run Average.

On Saturday, Wood went the distance in a 5-2 victory over Husson. She struck out 13, walked three, and gave up three hits in that contest.

Mckinlie Carpenter, who is also a BUHS grad, has three hits and has scored twice during her sophomore season with Castleton. She hit safely against Wooster, Knox, and Husson.

During the Brattleboro softball team's 1-0 victory over Missisquoi Valley in the 2013 state championship game, Carpenter had one of her team's four hits while Wood sat down 19 batters on her way to pitching a perfect game.

Castleton will play a doubleheader at Lyndon State on Wednesday and then host a twin bill with Thomas on Saturday, with games beginning at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
