Celebrating the month of love

Northfield, Mass. – February is the month of love, and First Parish of Northfield is inviting lovers of all ages to celebrate with a concert of Love Songs Through the Decades at 4 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the church, Main Street and Parker Avenue.

Sanctuary, which combines the musical stylings of singer/guitarist Gayle Craig and pianist/singer Mark Ellis, will present a selection of classic and modern standards, from Rogers and Hart's 1937 hit "My Funny Valentine" to John Legend's 2013 blockbuster "All of Me." The concert is the second in this year's Music in the Meetinghouse series, sponsored annually by the church.

Craig and Ellis are lifelong musicians who began blending their voices in the worship band at People's Church in Ashburnham three years ago. Since then they have been perfecting their sound and fine-tuning their harmonies while building a repertoire of popular favorites.

Besides performing in many venues in the Gardner-Fitchburg area, Craig was first runner up in Disney World Idol and was selected in 2004 to appear on the television show Star Search, which was canceled before she was able to take the stage. She is lead singer of the Christian rock band Scarlet Sanctum. Ellis, a former resident of Bernardston and Greenfield, cut his musical teeth in the clubs and halls of the Pioneer Valley and has traveled to churches all over the East Coast singing Christian music and leading worship and ministry.

The suggested donation for the concert is $10 for adults, $5 for children. Homemade refreshments will be available. Free parking is available on Parker Avenue and across Main Street behind Town Hall.
