Centre Church offers Sunday pageant, two Christmas Eve services
BRATTLEBORO -- The annual Christmas Pageant will take place at 10 a.m. worship on the 4th Sunday of Advent, Dec. 23, at Centre Congregational Church in downtown Brattleboro. Musicians Michael Mario and Micah Ranquist along with the children will lead the congregation in singing a variety of songs and carols. Poinsettias will be on display.
Two services will be offered on Monday, Christmas Eve. At 4:30 p.m. the Family Friendly Service will be celebrated, with the lighting of the Advent Wreath candles and hearing the nativity story. Derrick Harnish will play a Carol Medley for the prelude; soloist Haley Marcil will sing "Mary, Did you Know?" while Dominic Italia will play "The Little Drummer Boy" on hand drums.
At 7 p.m. the service is adapted from a Festival of Lessons and Carols at King’s College in Cambridge, England. Readers from the congregation will participate and musicians will include Director of Music Christian Huebner, with Brittany Pollard Robles as vocal soloist and Dominic Italia on hand drums. Worship ends with the singing of "Silent Night" and the lighting of candles.
The special offering for December benefits the Samaritan Fund and the Christmas Fund. The former enables the pastor to help those in emergency situations. The latter is one of four Special Mission offerings received annually in the United Church of Christ in a ministry of compassion to those who serve our church.
