Champlain College reaches deal with adjunct faculty union
BURLINGTON, VT. >> Champlain College administrators have reached a tentative contract agreement with recently-unionized adjunct faculty members following more than 10 hours of negotiation.
The Burlington Free Press reports the deal, struck just two days before students are set to arrive on campus, marks the first time the Burlington school will have a unionized faculty workforce under contract.
Depending on seniority, adjuncts will see an increase in pay from 15 to 22 percent under the terms of the agreement. The school has also agreed to establish a $20,000 professional development fund for opportunities such as conferences.
The contract will remain tentative until members of the adjunct union can ratify the agreement next week.
Champlain's part-time faculty members unionized with the Service Employees International Union last year.
