Choral Evensong at St. Michael's Episcopal Church

On Sunday, April 24 at 5 p.m., the beautiful service of Evensong will be sung by the Choir of St. Michael's Episcopal Church, directed by Susan Dedell. Although Evensong has its roots in Tudor England, the music composed for it has been constantly evolving, as composers from each subsequent era gravitate towards writing music for this lovely evening service.

The music for this Evensong is distinctly contemporary, using a jazz-influenced setting of the Magnificat and the Nunc Dimittis by British composer Bob Chilcott, with additional music by his contemporary Will Todd, and a psalm setting by Bobby McFerrin. Both Chilcott and

Todd are part of the "choral renaissance" that is sweeping England, and Todd is also a jazz pianist of some note.

The service of Evensong is particularly appropriate for visitors since it contains no sermons or creeds - just wonderful music, readings, and prayers.
