Bellows Falls Woman’s Club

BELLOWS FALLS -- Members of the Bellows Falls Woman’s Club will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church of Bellows Falls on School Street. A program on the exercise options at Curves will be presented by local owner of the franchise, Kathy Spence.

At the Sept. 10 meeting, Annette Spaulding and Patrick Madden spoke on their experiences as SCUBA divers in discovering the well preserved footings for an early 19th century bridge that, at the time, spanned the Connecticut River between Putney and Westmoreland, N.H. The bridge collapsed under the weight of circus wagons and an elephant. Thus, historically, it came to be known as the "Elephant Bridge."

The club held a tag sale in conjunction with the SEVCA flea market on Sept. 28. The next fundraiser will be a food and bake sale, held at the Walpole Library’s annual book sale, on Oct. 26.

At the Oct. 8 meeting, members will be asked to sign up to help with and/or donate to the food sale. Also, the club will be conducting a fall raffle of two prizes: a hand embroidered 36-inch by 36-inch tablecloth and a $100 Irving gas card. Tickets will be available from club members. Drawing of the winning tickets will be held at the club’s Dec. 10 meeting. Funds raised help support the club’s community outreach and scholarship programs.

Area women are welcome to join the club. Contact Barbara Comtois for information at 802-344-0025.
