Coach Hayford collects 400th victory
ARLINGTON — Buddy Hayford, who began coaching the likes of Mary Beth Allen and Tori Armstrong at Wilmington High in 1981, earned his 400th victory on Thursday night when the Twin Valley varsity girls basketball team topped Arlington 46-28.
"It's quite an honor," said Hayford, who has been the bench boss for 28 years. "But it's all about the kids. I've never scored a single point or played any defense."
Tayler Courchesne poured in a career-high 22 points, including 13 in the opening quarter, to lead the Wildcats offensively. Kirra Courchesne (8 points, 8 rebounds) and Kendell Howe (7 points, 4 rebounds) also contributed.
"I'm very pleased with the way we offensive rebounded," noted Hayford. "I'm very pleased with our effort."
The 3-2 Wildcats will host West Rutland today at 2:30 p.m.
