Colonels claim 2nd victory

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION -- The Brattleboro boys basketball team outscored Hartford 21-15 in the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s game to hold on for a 56-49 victory over the host Hurricanes.

Chris McAuliffe scored a game-high 16 points for the Colonels, who improved to 2-5 overall. Connor Elliott-Knaggs followed with 11.

Nick Fucci paced the 4-3 Hurricanes with 14 points. Cameron Gaudette chipped in with a dime’s worth.

The Colonels will play at rival MAU on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls Basketball

Hinsdale 43, Sunapee 36

SUNAPEE -- Despite six players battling the flu, the Pacers were able to improve to 6-0.

"It was a tight game. It was back and forth. My girls kept their composure," said Hinsdale coach Terry Bonnette. "We played good, team defense. They played hard."

Allison Scott poured in 14 points to lead the undefeated Pacers. Bridget Bourne followed with a dime’s worth and Skylar Bonnette finished with nine points of her own.

Hinsdale will play at Concord Christian tonight.

BRATTLEBORO -- Darek Harvey racked up six goals and Jack Pattison tallied twice to lead the combined Brattleboro Mites hockey team against Pioneer Valley in a recent game in Saxtons River. Leo Bodett was solid in goal, with some great defensive plays in front of him from Kyle Hamilton, Ali Sherwani and Nick Gerard.

On Saturday, Brattleboro’s Squirt team held off Pleasant Valley, 4-3, thanks to a game-winning goal by Andrew Peloso. Nathan Powers, Gabe Heiden and Alex Hudon also split the posts for the victors.

Goalie Austin Wood played well again on Sunday, helping the Brattleboro Squirts to a 3-1 victory over Amherst, Mass. Nathan Powers, Mason Foard and Ernie Antonucci did the offensive damage for the winners, with a pretty assists coming from Nellie Tattersal.

The Brattleboro PeeWees lost to Essex 9-5 and fell to Milton 8-2.

Rec League Basketball

BRATTLEBORO -- In Wednesday’s men’s league action at the Gibson-Aiken Center, Southern Vermont Painting downed Community High School of Vermont 60-41 and Members 1st Credit Union nipped GSP Coatings 75-74.

Ryan Boyle (29 points) and Joel Porter (19) did the damage for SVP. Danial Santos paced CHSV with 18 points.

Kelvin Delrosa went off for 30 points and Carl "Flipper" Anderson followed with 17 to pace Members 1st. Four different players reached double figures for GSP Coatings, including Rob Rea (19 points), Jim Bezanson (17), Joe Hunt (14) and KC Slate (10).

7th Grade Girls Hoops

TOWNSHEND -- Julianne Liebow and Mariah Hazard scored 22 and nine points respectively to lead Leland & Gray to a 38-11 rout over Vilas of Alstead, N.H. The 2-1 Rebels will face Green Mountain today at 3:30 p.m., followed by Leland & Gray’s seventh grade boys basketball team against Green Mountain at 4:45 p.m.

8th Grade Girls Hoops

TOWNSHEND -- Leland & Gray played in-your-face defense and outscored Vilas, 27-10. Molly O’Brien (8 points), McKenzie Boyle (6) and Rachel Borgesen (5) were the offensive standouts for the 2-1 Rebels.
