Colonels clip Bulldogs

Saturday February 16, 2013

BRATTLEBORO -- Maddie Derosia and Kayla Savage combined for 22 points, while Aidan Early and Allysa Bezanson were hot off the bench, as the Colonels defeated Burr & Burton, 49-45, on Friday night.

The Bulldogs maintained the advantage throughout the first three quarters of the game, leading 13-10 after one, and 23-21 at the break.

But Brattleboro shot back in the fourth.

"Offensively, we took more risks than usual," said BUHS coach Paul Freed. "The players are getting more confident and are taking more open shots when they’re there."

Derosia led the purple and white with 12 points. Savage had 10, plus five assists and seven rebounds. Early racked up six points and had seven defensive bounds.

In the fourth quarter, the Colonels broke the press, and Savage went coast-to-coast for the dish to Molly Goodhue, who got the team ahead by five points with a make, two minutes into the quarter. Brattleboro’s Taylor Bird had a nice pump fake, then gave it up to Abbi Lesure who drained a 3, as the Colonels went on a 8-0 scoring spree. Bezanson had four points, and was perfect from the line in the fourth to help Brattleboro finish.

The 6-9 Colonels play at MAU on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
