Colonels denied by Rutland
RUTLAND >> The Brattleboro Union High School varsity boys lacrosse team was defeated by Rutland, 12-9, on Saturday at Alumni Field.
The Colonels pulled even at 5-5 after falling behind 4-1 early. They would start the third quarter off with an extra man opportunity, but the Raiders dominated over those 12 minutes and put the game out of reach in the fourth.
"Our attack did a nice job settling the game down which allowed us to get back into the game," said BUHS coach Chris Sawyer, referring to the second-quarter rally. "Penalties and unforced turnovers in the third quarter hurt us — we play hard, but at times did Rutland's work for them. We need to stay positive, build on the things that we did do well and look forward to a challenging week."
Evan Perkins' four goals led the Colonel attack, which also included contributions from Jack Gagnon (3 goals, 2 assists) and Matt Gaboriault (2 goals, 2 assists). Alex Fitch and Nate Tyler each had a dime. Durin Hoyer held his own at the faceoff X and Kolton Ravenna made 12 saves in the loss.
The 1-5 Colonels will host Keene tonight at 7 at Natowich Field, before away games on Wednesday at Amherst and Friday at Woodstock.
