Colonels, Terriers on road in Week 6

BRATTLEBORO >> After ending Middlebury's impressive streak of 28 consecutive regular-season victories, the Brattleboro Union High School varsity football team is now hoping to defeat the defending Division 1 champions.

The 2-3 Colonels will play at Rutland tonight at 7.

Brattleboro, which blew a nine-point lead in Colchester last week, has been pounding the ball between the tackles with Cheick Diakite. The senior running back already has 735 rushing yards and 10 scores, thanks to the gaping holes being opened up by talented offensive linemen Jordan Wright, Kyle Banford, Sam Barrows, Ryan Struthers, Korie Cliche, During Hoyer and Manny "the Mansion" Vargas.

The Raiders have struggled stopping the run, giving up 155 yards on the ground to CVU's Braven Bose and 139 more to Saint Johnsbury QB Collin Urie. Offensively, Rutland has the Bailey Peters-Kyle Cassarino connection, which was good for a pair of touchdown passes versus the Hilltoppers.

On Saturday at 1 p.m., undefeated Bellows Falls will play at winless Lyndon.

The Terriers have cruised to victories over Springfield, Mount Abraham, North Country, Mount Mansfield and Milton. The BF fans have seen their share of big plays, including a 95-yard interception return by Brendan Kendall against Milton last week, a 79-yard TD run by Jahyde Bullard in the opener, and a 54-yard TD strike from Caleb Lisai to Jacob Streeter.

In a 20-point loss to Mount Abe on Saturday, Lyndon's Marcus Reeb ran the ball in from one yard out and also threw a touchdown pass to Cameron Murray.
