Commonwealth Dairy to expand, add up to 34 jobs

BRATTLEBORO - Commonwealth Dairy is investing another $12 million in its yogurt making facility in Brattleboro and plans to add more production space and jobs by April 2013.

"Our production and expansion in Brattleboro has far exceeded our most optimistic projections when we launched this project in 2010," stated Commonwealth Dairy President and CEO Thomas Moffitt in a press release. "In less than two years, we have become a leading producer of authentic strained Greek yogurt, including our own Green Mountain Creamery brand."

When complete, the expansion will add more than 23,000 square feet to house a new processing line, warehouse space, filling machine, fermentation tanks, waste water treatment improvements and new whey processing and packaging equipment.

The expansion will also increase the work force at Commonwealth, adding up to another 34 jobs to its already 100-plus employee roster.

The plant began operations in March 2011 and has been producing 100,000 cases of packaged yogurt per week since January of this year.
