Communion to be celebrated Sunday at First Congregational Church of Newfane

Saturday August 3, 2013

NEWFANE -- Communion will be celebrated at the 10 a.m. worship service at the First Congregational Church of Newfane on Sunday, Aug. 4. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Chris Petrak who will speak on "Of Eagles, and Hippos, and Little Misery Mud." Scripture reading is from Matthew 25:14-30.

Congregational hymns are "I Lift My Eyes," "Come Share the Lord" and "On Eagles’ Wings." Special offertory music, "Anna Magdalena Bach Notebook," will be offered by Dan Marx on the oboe. The prelude "Chorale Prelude on ‘Dix’" by Steven Scott and the postlude "Postlude on ‘Morning Song’ " will be played by Martha LaMoria, organist/music director.

Though there is no formal Sunday School or childcare during August, children are always welcome in the worship service. Willing surrogate grandparents are plentiful for sharing children. A large box of children’s activities can be used and is located in the back of the sanctuary. The Mission of the Month for August is the Ministers’ Relief Fund and Newfane Children’s Christmas. Events for the upcoming week include Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Sew What’s at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; Deacons at 11 a.m., Trustees at 6:30 p.m. and Church Council at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday; Monthly Senior Luncheon at noon on Thursday (zucchini theme); Boys to Men Check In at 4 p.m. on Friday.
