COMMUNITY CONTRA AND SQUARE DANCES PLANNED AT WILMINGTON’S HISTORIC MEMORIAL HALL
WILMINGTON -- An evening of community contra and square dances will take place at Memorial Hall on Saturday from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Calling the dance will be Andy Davis of Brattleboro. He will be joined by Thal Aylward, from Windsor, on the fiddle and Carol Compton, from Keene N.H., on piano. Davis adds accordion to the sound and provides expert prompting of the dances, which are suitable for all levels of experience, including beginners.
The program will include traditional New England contra dances, square dances, circle mixers and couple dances. All the dances will be taught with a brief and helpful "walk-through." Come to dance, visit with friends, enjoy this beautiful historic old hall and celebrate downtown Wilmington’s comeback after Tropical Storm Irene.
Davis, Aylward and Crompton have been playing traditional New England dance music for many years. They play the lively reels, jigs and waltzes that give contras and squares their distinctive flavor. This event is an opportunity for families and friends to come together to enjoy one of New England’s revered traditions.
Admission is by donation. For more information or directions, contact Carlotta Gladding at 802-464-2892 or Andy Davis at firstname.lastname@example.org.
