NEWFANE -- The third Sunday of Advent will be celebrated on Sunday, Dec. 16, at the First Congregational Church of Newfane. The Candle of Renewal will be lit by Lucy and Zinnia Hull along with their parents Apple Gifford and David Hull.

The title of Rev. Robert Hamm’s sermon is "Justice and Generosity" with Scripture from the book of Luke, chapter 3 and verses 7-18.

The Newfane Community Handbell Choir will play the prelude and Martha LaMoria will play the postlude "Postlude for a Festive Occasion." The choir will sing "A Christmas Antiphonal" by Hal H. Hopson.

The Sunday school children will continue their study of The Christmas Story. They have made an Advent Wreath for their classroom and will be making ornaments to add to the church Christmas tree that relate to what they are learning.

Events for the upcoming week include the Early Education Services Playgroup at 9:30 a.m. and Al-Anon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday; Sew What’s/Linus Christmas Gathering at 5 p.m. on Tuesday; Ladies Aid Meeting at 10 a.m., Handbell rehearsal at 5:15 p.m. and choir rehearsal at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
