MONTICELLO, N.Y. >> An upstate New York teacher and her husband face charges after police say they had drugs and weapons.

Simona Ballard works as a special education teacher at George Cooke Elementary School in the Sullivan County village of Monticello.

The Middletown Times Herald-Record reports state police found more than 10 ounces of powder cocaine worth about $20,000 in a car she and her husband were in during a Friday traffic stop. Cocaine and heroin were later found at their Rock Hill home, along with loaded guns.

Simona Ballard's bail is set at $500,000. Her attorney unsuccessfully argued that she's a mother of two and has community ties.

Robert Ballard's bail is set at $1 million.

Monticello School District officials say a teacher whose name isn't being released is on administrative leave pending an investigation.
